What Is Hypnotherapy?
Hypnotherapy confirms the mind and body connection. Although researchers have had a difficult time agreeing on a clear definition of hypnosis, most do agree that during hypnosis there is an altered state of consciousness in which the patient experiences total mental and physical relaxation. It appears to affect how your brain communicates with your body through nerve impulses, hormones and body chemicals. When you are in a hypnotic state, you are more open to suggestions, which can be used to modify behavior, reduce pain and improve health and well-being (web article by the Mayo Clinic, June 24, 2007).
Why Should I Consider Hypnotherapy?
There are many reasons why you should consider hypnotherapy… -
Because it is safe and it’s effectiveness has been recognized by numerous sources, including the American Medical Association and the American Journal of Psychiatry.
-
Because you want an alternative to medication or invasive treatment.
-
Because the there are no negative side effects.
-
Because you are frustrated with traditional interventions that don’t seem to help.
Please note: If you want to use hypnotherapy for pain management or any other medical condition, please consult with your doctor beforehand. A referral from your physician will be required before treatment can be initiated. As part of our commitment to your medical care, you can expect that we will work closely with your doctor.
What Can Hypnotherapy Be Used To Treat?
It has been proven to help in treating chronic or acute pain relief, past traumas, improving performance, health, confidence, relationships, sports, concentration, recall and creativity, overcoming habits, fears and phobia, self-discovery, stress reduction, and positive self-expression. Dr. King specializes in using hypnosis for pain and stress management and for treating Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).
Who Can Be Hypnotized?
Virtually everyone, but some are more readily hypnotizable than others. Your ability to be hypnotized depends upon a number of factors, such as your willingness to be hypnotized, strength of your particular need and your trust and confidence in the therapist.
Does Hypnotherapy Cure All Problems Automatically?
Hypnotherapy can be very effective for many problems (see partial list above), but it is NOT magic. It takes a highly skilled therapist and a highly motivated individual for hypnotherapy to be effective.
Is Hypnotherapy The Only Treatment Modality Dr. King Can Offer?
Absolutely not. Because Dr. King is a licensed psychotherapist and a certified clinical hypnotherapist with many years of experience, hypnotherapist is only one of many treatment modalities she offers her patients. Hypnotherapy can be offered as an individual treatment modality or it can be used in tandem with psychotherapy. It all depends on your individual needs.
How Many Sessions Do I Need To Have To See Any Changes?
As I stated before, your treatment plan is customized to meet your needs, so until a thorough evaluation is conducted, it is not possible to predict how many sessions you will need. On the average, most treatment plans are based on 4-6 sessions and most individuals report some improvement within the first couple of sessions.
What Can I Expect When I Come For Hypnotherapy?
Expect your initial intake session to last about one hour and half. You will be asked to complete some forms and surveys before you and I sit to discuss your goals. These forms will provide me with the necessary information that I need to develop your customized treatment plan. We may or may not do a hypnotherapy exercise in our first meeting. Your subsequent sessions will be approximately 45-minutes in length.
